About This Game Fantasy Wars is a turn-based strategy game set in a fantasy world. Combining both classic strategy gameplay and sophisticated 3D graphics players can experience epic battles like never before. Taking place in a fantasy world of Human kingdoms, Orc clans, Dwarfs' citadels and Elven forests the player is thrust into a world of war and legend. Play the role of an Orc or Goblin boss, a captain of the Human army or lead the elite forces of the Elven army. Participate in castle sieges and village defense, assault and reconnaissance operations and swift raids. To be victorious remember that the amount and experience of troops is not always the key factor, organize cooperation between different types of units and use the landscape to achieve strategic superiority. It isn't as shiny or as clean-cut, but it will give you your fix.. This game is a classic turn based strategy game with rpg elements. It reminds me a lot of Heroes of Might and Magic just on a pure battle focused scale.Whats good:- Battle mechanics are fairly well cut and have understandable feedback (you know why u loose when you do)- Unit diversity is hight and they are nonetheless well (enough) balanced some units are a tad bit too strong - Heroes add a good boost in terms of motivation- Challanging if you want it to (3 different difficulty settings)- Taking your units with you and upgrading them with exp, perks, gold and items is fairly motivatingWhats bad:- Extremly short with low replay value - if any at all- Exploration is a bit blocked (due to the timelimit to get gold victorys on levels, although this actually adds a bit spice to the difficulty to split your army so...mh)- There are no real choices in term of the story, its a straight line with no diversions- Its all 100% Combat, no Base or anything else.- Some units can become 100% useless in some missions (for example slow units in a breakthrough mission) - so if you leveld the wrong units or chosen the wrong perks, these levels can be very hard...- Setting and story are decent at best, often they are fairly predicable and without major surprises - sometimes even uninsired.Too long; didn't read:If you like turn based fantasy combat and you are thirsting for a new game - try this one. Its not a must have but its nice for in-between. Its not as big as Civ or Endless as it has no base building, but it has a good pace, difficulty and the game mechanics work well :). 7.5\/10 Surprisingly solid.It's a Russian TBS in a fantasy setting. the 3 different campaigns have enough variety of units to keep you thinking, while the hex-based missions are refreshingly difficult. Story is, let's be generous and say "Familiar" to most fantasy fans and the voice acting doesn't really shine. The graphics are a little dated, but still do a good job of conveying atmosphere.All in all, think HOMM in russian, and at quite a good price. worth it at full price, must-have in a sale.. I bought this out of nostlgic memories of Fantasy General as it is a very similar game (if not a direct fan-made remake). Much nicer game graphics but lacking the beautiful artwork and musical score that made Fantasy General stand out for me. In terms of the gameplay I would say this game is one of the most frustrating strategy games I have ever played. The (unecessary) time contraints mean that I had to be constantly overextending which got me punished by the AI 9 times out of 10. I probably spent more time reloading\/restarting more than playing - I think the last mission of the Human campaign (I haven't bothered with the others) took me about 12 hours and 4 restarts. I felt quite traumatized by the end.The twists to the quests that occur at the end meant that thought I had finished the mission only to find I then had to unexpectedly get a particular hero to a specific location to win - this guy might be on the other side of the map depending on how I split my troops up at the start; so time to restart again... Similarly if I place all my units down at the start I might suddenly find that I need to defend somewhere on the other side of the map and realize that I should have reserved some units for this and needed to restart.. A decent strategy game with excellent potential.It suffers from AI that is kind of lacking and some poorly designed campaign missions, but the rest of it is decent.Its a good alternative for warhammer fans.. A Lazy Review:Fantasy General + Heroes 3 + ((Modern Times * Hard Work) - Russian Accent) = Fantasy WarsGood+Recommend : YesNote: hard game.. This is a modern remake of the classic SSI game Fantasy General. Since it's cheap I can't complain! Get it now if you have never played Fantasy General.. A very nice turn-based strategy game. Your units get XP and you can decide which units will make up your army to adapt to your style of play. The story is okay, but nothing earthshaking. The game runs smoothly and very stable. 9\/10 from me.
